Established in 1983 by master potter, Goldie Spieler, Earthworks is now run by her son David and a staff of 24. Sitting at the top of Shop Hill, Earthworks Pottery makes beautiful one-of-a-kind hand-finished tableware, vases, bowls and art works. Red clay ceramic pieces fired to stoneware temperatures make the pottery ideal for homes or restaurants. If you have something you want made from clay, from custom tiles to a bathroom sink, they’ll happily make it for you. Everything is hand-finished and handdecorated with underglaze colors. The products are lead-free, food-safe, and dishwasher- and microwave-safe. You can tour the pottery during work hours and watch as the potters make unique pieces. Leaving the pottery, head next door and watch batiks being made by hand at the adjacent Batik Studio. Next to the Batik Studio is the Potter’s House at On The Wall, where the best of Barbados’ art is available. Then stop at the Tree House Café and enjoy art works by Marguerite St John, along with the spectacular view and delicious snacks and drinks on the veranda overlooking the valley. Open Monday-Friday 9-5, Saturday 9-1. Closed Sundays and public holidays.
